THE LEURA STORY WALKING TOUR

Have you wandered through Leura Village and wondered why so many buildings reflect the Australian Federation era? It’s almost as if the village has been beautifully preserved in a century-old time warp!

Join Mountains Tales for a relaxed two-hour walking tour exploring the history and evolution of Leura Village. We begin in the late Victorian period, when Leura was established as a relaxing retreat for Sydney’s wealthy, seeking an escape from the summer heat and humidity.

Arriving by steam train; families built comfortable holiday homes, while others stayed in hotels and guesthouses, by the time of Australia’s Federation, a thriving community had been born. As we stroll through the streets, you’ll hear stories of the people, places, and events that shaped Leura’s unique character and the Federation legacy we enjoy today.

Your guide, Sue, is a proud Leura Local, who is happy to share tips on great places to eat and shop, and ways to make the most of your Blue Mountain’s visit. Tours are intimate, with a maximum of 15 guests, well-behaved, leashed dogs are welcome-my two whippets give the tour a glowing five-paw review!

Our Village Walking Tours operate in “Mountains Weather,” please bring a hat, jacket or umbrella, based on the days offering. If you have a gathering of family or friends, we invite small groups to join us for a private tour. Please contact Mountains Tales to coordinate.
